I guess that’s the last of the code I wrote for the .nz registry gone 😢 (I wrote the whois server, in Perl, ~20 years ago. And AFAICY from the outside the only changes were removing fields and adding data ownership claims back in.)

I guess it’s good they still answer the whois service at all, but the “new” output format has even less useful data than the “trimmed down” previous version 😢

The fact other countries can hear him is intentional: it’s called signalling. “What if we pretended to lie about this, a white lie really, but you knew the truth anyway.” Claim the glory, at much less cost.

(I don’t think NZ National are alone in wanting to do that 😢)

The same thing happened here (NZ): we were told (loose) surgical masks “just as good” as N95 😔

My guesses at the time were (a) they didn’t want to cause panic (eg, USA early 2020 mask hoarding), and (b) they didn’t want to pay for N95 masks for everyone.

Sadly short sighted 😢

3 overnight outages? That’s not an outage. This is an outage: the NZ IRD (ATO equivalent) had an 11 day planned outage a few years back (24x11 hours). And it wasn’t just the website either. They were closed closed.

(Some earlier / later years also had multi-day outages.)

Come on in, the water’s fine :-)

Seriously, InfoSec Twitter in particular has pretty much all moved to Mastodon over the last week. It’s pretty much as active there as it was here a week ago.

(And yes, it’s sad to see Twitter so quickly/unnecessarily destroyed.)

Last I checked Vitamin D (and C) were the few that the body immediately discards excess if not needed right away, as we evolved in an environment where they were always present. (Most others are retained though.)

OTOH 10,000IU is pretty high; 1000-2000IU is often suggested.

Possibly they were concerned about forcing the body to process/discard an excess 8000-9000IU per day? Does seem high a bit high. 🤔

(I’ve been taking 1000-2000IU mostly year around, and it definitely seems to help over winter. But that’s only 10-20% of 10,000IU.)

TIL 😮

Thanks for the link. Looks like for adults 4000+IU daily is the threshold for “might be a concern”. But the major problems they reported seem to be well over 40,000IU.

Another case of “too much of a good thing” I guess :-)

I’ve been using Toot! for about 2.5 years and am fairly happy with it. At least on iPhone; not tried it on iPad but it seems I should try it on iPad too given… the way things are going.

(Metatext also gets suggested, but I’ve not tried it.) https://apps.apple.com/nz/app/toot/id1229021451

Also in case it helps it’s possible to set Mastodon up for “must approve followers” and possible to post “followers only” (per post).

Unfortunately while there are import tools to add who you want to follow again, I don’t know any to add “who can follow you” 😢
